Drawing for Beginners

A lot of people want to be able to draw better. But the truth is that even though drawing is a lot of fun, it can also be very intimidating sometimes when you have no idea where to start learning. All the time, I see artists who want to improve their drawing skills and have the ambition to learn only to be discouraged when they see the artwork of a seasoned artist and think, “I have to figure out some way to get to that level? How could I ever do that?” Well, my goal with the upcoming courses on how to draw is to help you overcome that daunting feeling so many artists have. Art is my passion. But teaching others how to develop their own passion and skills in art is also something I care deeply about. Fear not, my friends. I am going to give you the tools you need to become the artist you want to be!

In our upcoming Drawing for Beginners course, I am going to teach you how to draw, starting with the basic fundamentals of drawing. We are going to examine everyday objects and see how any object can be simplified into a combination of the three most basic shapes; the circle, the square, and the triangle. These shapes are as simple as it gets, and if you look closely, you can see these shapes present in every object in existence. I will teach you how to observe things in everyday life and to see the 3 dimensional forms that make up those objects, how light and shadow affect the way you see things, how to understand perspective and its effect on objects and how to use your own understanding of those things to construct a drawing. I will also share with you some important drawing techniques that will help you make smoother, more controlled lines. Including one technique that my mentor from Disney, Eric Larson, taught me decades ago that completely changed the way I draw.

As I am sure you have heard before, the key to mastering any skill is practice. The same is true for drawing. However, I will teach you exactly what to practice and how to practice in a way that will enforce good habits and thought processes when drawing. At the end of this lesson, you will receive an assignment from me that will help prepare you for the Intermediate Drawing course that will also be released in the next few months. Be sure to keep an eye on our Instagram page (@pomeroyartacademy) for updates and details on when these lessons will become available!
